Wendy’s experience spans over 25 years in the hospitality and tourism industry, working as an independent industry consultant as well as working for properties such as Fairmont Hotels & Resorts in Whistler and Vancouver, The Pan Pacific Vancouver Hotel and a number of Vancouver Island destination Resorts.
“Wendy’s wealth of knowledge and experience in the industry will be extremely valuable to us as we move forward into 2012,” remarks Shawna Broekhuizen, the Resorts General Manager. “Wendy has strong community ties and knows the challenges that come with marketing a destination such as ours. Locally Wendy is an avid supporter of the Oceanside community, working with the Parksville & District Chamber of Commerce and the Oceanside Tourism Association.

Chelsea Cummings Named TVI 2011 Tourism Employee of the Year |

The Beach Club Resort is proud to announce that Chelsea Cummings has been named Tourism Vancouver Island’s Tourism Employee of the Year for 2011. Cummings accepted the award on September 21, 2011 at their 48th Annual Conference and AGM before an illustrious crowd of her peers from the Island’s tourism industry.
Cummings exemplifies all the qualities that say “I care about your needs” to each and every guest at the Resort. She works extremely hard and goes above and beyond at every opportunity to ensure the guest’s experience at The Beach Club Resort is pleasant, stress free and memorable, resulting in repeat business for The Beach Club Resort.
Cummings started at The Beach Club Resort as a Reservationist in 2008 and was part of the opening team during the Resort’s launch. Her work ethic immediately stood out and she was soon promoted to Reservations Supervisor. She continued to excel in service and sales and was promoted to the Sales and Catering team in 2009. She recently advanced to the roll of Assistant Operations Manager assisting the General Manager with the day to day operations as well as the owner’s liaison within the property.
Cummings’ supervisors and managers proudly recognize her valuable contributions to the Resort’s success throughout 2010. The Beach Club Resort Excited About GM's Successful Chinese Tour |

The Beach Club Resort, the highest rated Green Key (5 Green Keys) and Canada Select (4½ Stars) luxury resort hotel in the Oceanside area, is excited about the success of the General Manager, Shawna Broekhuizen’s trip to China this past May.
Shawna Broekhuizen’s 10 day business trip designed for the Canadian business leaders to visit China to explore the business environment by interacting with the local business entrepreneurs in the major cities. Highlights of the trip included business relationship building opportunities in Beijing, Lang’fang, Xi An, and Shanghai. Broekhuizen, along with the other VIEA members met with entrepreneurs, visiting economic development zones and the Zhang Jiang Hi-tech Park, as well as local investment firms and government officials. Broekhuizen was able to secure a number of qualified group leads including a number of organizations already traveling to British Columbia to visit the Oceanside Region and stay at The Beach Club Resort post their conferences in Vancouver and Victoria. Broekhuizen also meet with the General Manager, Alex Hou of the Chinese International Travel Services Ltd. who had recently returned from a Canada wide tour with Fairmount and is very interested in exploring Vancouver Island. Broekhuizen’s opportunities also included meeting with the General Manager, Promotions Manager, and Director of Tourism from the Shaanxi Friendship Int’l Travel Services Co. Ltd. which resulted in two articles being published in the China World Travelers Magazine covering Vancouver Island.
After arriving home, Broekhuizen’s meet with the CEO of Tourism Vancouver Island (TVI), Dave Petryk, to being planning a Familiarization Tour (FAM) of Vancouver Island in partnership with TVI and Tourism British Columbia and the Canadian Tourism Commission. Broekhuizen is please to lead the introduction of Vancouver Island to some of the affluent traveler in China and share her contacts and knowledge with her industry partners. Securing both a FAM tour and significant group and leisure business to Vancouver Island is confirmation of the success Broekhuizen had in China. Broekhuizen has also worked with key contacts in both China and Canada to secure a work visa for one of the interpreters on her trip. The Beach Club Resort is excited to welcome the expertise and diverse knowledge and offer interim placement for the Chinese interpreter, Kong Xianyun, who will be arriving in Canada in November. Kong Xianyun will assist in preparing the staff at the resort for the arrival of the FAM tour.

Shawna Broekhuizen along with VIEA members and colleagues from Canada Asia Business Network will be attending one of the biggest Chinese business fairs in China- CHINA (LANGFANG) INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC & TRADE FAIR. The Canadian Asia Business Network is collaborating with C.T.S. (China Travel Service) to make the arrangements for VIEA members to travel to Lang’fang city in May 2011. This 14 day business trip designed for the Canadian business leaders to visit China for two purposes. The first purpose is to experience China, a beautiful country with its long and fascinating history. The second purpose is to explore the business environment by interacting with the local business entrepreneurs in the major cities. Highlights of the trip include business relationship building opportunities in Beijing, Lang’fang, Xi An, Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou. Members will be meeting entrepreneurs, visiting economic development zones and the Zhang Jiang Hi-tech Park, as well as meeting local investment firms and government officials.

The Beach Club Resort, the premier luxury resort hotel in the Oceanside area, is proud to announce a new complimentary shuttle service and free overnight parking for Patrons of Pacific Steak & Chop restaurant. The shuttle service is being offered in support of the new impaired driving laws in British Columbia. The Beach Club Resort’s goal of the new shuttle service is to make a direct contribution to improving road safety within the Oceanside Area by providing patrons with a safe alternative to driving.
The complimentary shuttle service and free parking is now being offered to all Patrons of Pacific Prime Steak & Chop restaurant. The shuttle service will provide pick-up and drop off service to Patrons who would like to enjoy wine and libations with their meal at the restaurant. Patrons from the Oceanside area can book the shuttle for pickup when they make their reservation at the Pacific Prime Steak & Chop restaurant or they can park their car for free in our underground parking lot and get a ride home with the shuttle service after dining. Shuttle service outside the Oceanside area is available for drop-off, but must be pre-booked when Patrons make their reservation at the Pacific Prime Steak & Chop Restaurant. The shuttle service will serve the Oceanside area with the goal of helping to make our community’s road safer.

This year’s Red Surge fundraiser dinner will have the Tour de Rock Riders as well as Police and RCMP Officers representing the different communities on Vancouver Island.
The Tour de Rock Red Surge Fundraiser dinner and auction will be held on Thursday September 23rd, 2010 at the Beach Club Resort. The Tickets for the event are $50.00 per person and can be purchased at The Beach Club Resort, Thrifty Foods, Remax, and TD Bank in Parksville. The fundraiser event starts at 5:30pm, with the Tour de Rock Riders arriving at 6:30pm. Guests will enjoy a 3 course plated dinner with two of the Tour de Rock Riders at each table. After dinner the auction begins with great items up for bid donated by the local community and a raffle for a new Kayak.

As a result of a new partnership with paper supplier Tork, a significant amount of waste will be reduced. To be exact, 55 trees, 22 thousand gallons of water, 13 thousand kilowatts of energy and 9.7 cubic yards of landfill.
